Our next photography experiences will be the Big Cat Photography workshop at Colchester Zoo on 15 June 2018 and
the Big and Small Wild Cat photo day at the Cat Survival Trust on 14 July 2018.

Only 1 space is still available on the BCP workshop in June but plenty of spaces are still available for the photo day in July.

Basic Nature Photography

This full-day photography course is for people who love the natural environment, wildlife and would like to get a better understanding of how their digital SLR (or bridge) camera works.

We offer this photography course at Bradgate Park and in the Peak District on a one-to-one basis, providing our customers with an indepth learning experience while taking photos of the deer, other wildlife and the beautiful landscapes around Bradgate Park and the Peak District.

The Basic Nature Photography course will start at 8am as we will try to capture the activity of the deer before the park or respectively the area of the Peak District will get too busy. Following this early morning photography excursion there will be a theory session at Bradgate Park, where we will cover how to control the exposure and utilise this plus other camera features to get certain effects like blurring out backgrounds, taking an image of wildlife hiding in bushes or capturing the motion of wildlife on the move or in flight. In the Peak District participants will also get the handout explaining all of these aspects, though we will discuss the respective camera settings and approaches to capture the different types of subjects while being out on the moors.

Bradgate Park

After the classroom session at Bradgate Park we will be back out in the park to practise the new skills and most importantly to get some great images of the deer, other wildlife and the natural environment around the River Lin as well as other parts of the park
(in the Peak District we will be out there most of the time, except for a lunch break).

At both venues red deer is shy and will stay away from crowded areas, but your guide is spending some time to scout out the best locations on a regular basis and there will be plenty of other photo opportunities from birds and waterfowl to landscapes and macro photography subjects
(flowers and insects). At Bradgate Park the red deer usually returns to the part of the park that is open to the public later in the afternoon as well; and participants may be able to capture the deer coming across the River Lin.

The Peak District

As this is a customised photography course on a one-to-one basis
(or for small groups of friends, family members or other associations) the participant(s) will have the undivided attention of their guide and will have support available throughout the day.

Your guide is a professional photographer who works with wildlife conservation, and she will be available to answer any of your questions on photography aspects and/or the wildlife while we are walking around Bradgate Park or respectively the moors in the Peak District, photographing landscapes and wildlife. Participants will also have the chance to get feedback on their photos and discuss what worked and what could be done differently to get high quality images that tell a story and catch attention.

At both venues we will be walking to find and track the wildlife and photograph also landscapes
(at both venues the walks are rated easy to moderate, and in the Peak District there are some steep sections we will walk through). We recommend to wear comfortable shoes and outdoor clothing, suitable for the weather conditions on the day (including waterproof clothing and over the summer months in particular protection from sun and insects).

The Basic Nature Photography course will start at 8am and will finish at 5pm at both venues. The full-day event costs £200 when booked on a one-to-one basis or respectively £150 per person when booked for two people, £120 per person when booked for three people and respectively £100 per person when booked for four people. The fee includes tuition and support by our professional photographer throughout the day plus drinks in the morning and with lunch
(also included). Please note in order to make the course most beneficial for participants and also to avoid intrusion on the wildlife, we keep the maximum numbeer of participants in the Peak District to two (2) people (four at Bradgate Park).
